Gemma Hayward

Gemma’s love affair with styling began as a young child when she would spend hours fashioning Oscar gowns out of her mum’s silk dressing gown and would beg for school shoes with kitten-heels. Born and raised in Essex, she studied Fashion Promotion and illustration at University in Surrey.

Cutting her teeth at the Independent Newspaper Group, Gemma progressed her way to the role of Fashion Editor where she was responsible for all the visual fashion content –styling and art directing the weekly main fashion shoots for the Saturday and Sunday Magazines. After 10 years at the Independent, she joined Grazia UK in 2013 where she is currently the senior fashion editor at large, working closely with all the major luxury designers and high street fashion brands.

Career highlights have been styling a spoof cover shoot for the Independent in aid of Sports Relief, shot by Alasdair McLellan, starring Lara Stone and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and working with Ricardo Tisci after his Givenchy show to create a cover for Grazia with his favourite supermodels.

Gemma is renowned for her fresh take on style and championing looks that don’t take themselves too seriously. She loves Elton John and Lasagne and still likes to buy heels, even though she’ll admit to being happier in sneakers.
